The Energetic Life of Color

In Color Explorations, I set out to discover how vivid hues behave against darkness. This 24-by-30-inch fluid acrylic painting brings color and shadow together, as white, red, yellow, and turquoise drift through deep blues and blacks. Their paths cross, open, and fold back on themselves, revealing forms that might suggest waves, flames, or unfamiliar terrain.

As the paint moves, bright passages emerge from the dark ground. I wanted to build gradients and cellular patterns, letting intricate textures develop within the flowing shapes. These details give the composition a sense of depth, as the forms gather, separate, and transform.

I’m pleased to share that Color Explorations has been selected by another jury for the Fifteenth Biannual, taking place at Angad Arts Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. The exhibition offers an opportunity to experience my artwork in the hotel’s distinctive setting and spend time with a vibrant gathering of art and culture.

Join me for the opening reception on Tuesday, November 3, from 5 to 8 p.m.
